How's it going guys? Just got turned onto this forum and was hoping someone could help out with a question. I just bought a '99 GS from a guy that said the only problem he ever had was at the end of last year, the machine lost power after running for a while. He took into the dealership and they went through the fuel sytem and cleaned/ replaced some things. I took it out the other day for the first time and experienced the exact same thing after about an hour and a half of wave jumping. The best way I can explain it is at idle it runs rough and when you hit the throttle, it will jump up and go for two seconds and then die out to a rough idle, but not stall. I am by no means a SeaDoo expert, but I have a 2006 SkiDoo 600 that looks to me like an almost identical engine. If this was happening on my sled, I probably wouldn't have started with the fuel since the thing runs great for an hour and a half before any problems. If it had anything to do with fuel, I assume it would be a problem the whole time, not just after an hour and a half. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony

Are you saying that it may be overheating? If it were going to overheat, wouldn't it do that within the first 20 minutes or so? I have a GS, does that have a buzzer for temp? I was talking to a guy from the dealership and he wants to rip my carbs apart to clean a screen that is inside the carbs. Does that sound likely. I'm still hesitant to think that it's a fuel problem.

hey...I said about overheating, due to all the wave jump'n your say'n..didnt mention the fuel/carbs, since ..said that fuel system was ripped thru, and like you said, runs good for 1.5hrs. Wont take much to pull carb/s and open up, you'll see a screen in there, at least, rule that out..

Thanks for the quick responses. I'll have them go through the carbs and hope for the best. If that doesn't do the trick I'll be back for some more advice. Thanks again for the ideas...

best way to check for overheating is with your hand on the cyl head. if it feels too hot, it is. if you can hold your hand on it while running, temp is fine. this symptom sounds like fuel. try running on reserve.

Sounds good, I'll give that a try as well for testing the temp. What is the signifigance of running on reserve though?
