Hi guys, I am new to the forum so go easy

we have a 99 challenger 1800, just bought it cheapo as it was submerged with rain water upto the carbs! I have rebuilt both motors fully, from the crank up........the carbs were beyond help so invested in some brand new ones from my supplier on the cheap, but they are for the pwc not boat so have own fuel pump, we rigged the plumbing to suit and did away with all the old lines and pump.
Both motors start on the button, idle absolutely as sweet as a nut, both idle identical rpm and start as soon as you hit the button, but neither engine will rev up.........just seems to limit rpm

I have cut back ht leads, even put new coils on now as when you run with a strobe light on the leads the spark dissapears (jumps in and out) as if a limiter is on............stators seem fine as does everything else.........so what have I missed?

As we bought the thing siezed I have never heard the thing run or know whether it had the fault prior to the water logging and rebuilds......I am starting to suspect the MPEM?

Also, someone said something about a water sensor in the hull some where could be corroded.......to my knowledge it mustbe a common denominator for both engines..........any ideas?

If you are trying to rev the engines up on the trailer with the shifter in neutral, the engines will not rev past 3500 rpms.

Thank you for the replys..........the revs are indeed 3500 on both motors onthe trailer......I was told of the neutral switch, the weird thing is the motor will crank and start in neutral, forward or reverse..........and if forward or reverse is engaged it makes no difference!

I removd all the shift mechansm from the gunwale and it loks wl corroded and un maintained............but the switch is connected, if I disconnect the switch the motrs wont crank at all.

It's the switch then. It thinks it's in neutral all of the time. It's either shot or stuck down. On my 98 it is under the control handle (shift lever). The lever has a flat bottom and angles up front and back, when in neutral the flat bottom pushes the switch down, when in forward or reverse the angles allow it to pop back up. A 99 may be different. Pull the control handle assembly and see what you have

Somehow I missed the last part of your post. If you keep the switch connected, but unscrew it from the handle, try and operate it by hand. Push the little button in and see if it starts, if it does, release the little button and see if it revs up. I hear that they sometimes just get stuck.

makes perfect sense, thanks or your help. I quized my local stealer on the switch and he said no way......, what he didnt tell me ....or indeed know is that it limits!

I'll remove the switch this week and try it
