hello,
I have a 1998 xp limited 951. That is doing some really strange things. I just took it out on Saturday and it will start and idle perfect. When you give it throttle it will cut out. Sometimes if you play with it you can get it to run around 25 mph but when you can it all it does is try to rev and then cut out, It did take off and run a couple of times but not much. Sometimes it would shut off like you pulled the cord, you would get a long beep and then if you waited a sec it would start instantly. I ve done most of the obvious, like a new set of plugs, I checked the fuses, and looked things over, I did just have the motor out, so the ground wires seem fine.

Now for the kicker, When I got it back on the trailer, I wanted to see if you could detect the cut out when it wasn't under load so I started it and at first you could tell that it was cutting out and then it took off to the races and went up to wide open on its own and I pulled the lanyard and it kept running with it off and I had to choke it out. I looked the carbs and throttle cable over and decided I would try it again. And the same thing happened, it started and then went to wide open and I had a hard time getting it shut down with the choke. I have to use the lanyard to start it but for some reason it was running on the trailer with out it, but that wasn't the case in the water when I was trying to make it run without cutting out.

Sorry about the long post, any help would be great!!
thanks

The reason for the running on the trailer without the lanyard is it was hot and the spark plugs acted like a glow plug in a remote control car. The plug was hot enough to keep it running with fuel and compressed mixture in the combustion chamber. Does the seadoo have the gray fuel lines still? If it does you need to replace them and clean the carburetors. The internal filters are more than likely filled with crap and are clogged which is keeping it from running properly. Do you have a seadoo manual? if not here is an idea for you.
You could join as a "premium member". As a premium member you can down load a authentic seadoo manual from the seadoo manual library. In the library is a variety of manuals for almost all years and models. You can view as many as you like on line as a PDF file, or download it and print it for your personal and privet use. There are operator manuals and repair manuals for you to do your own repairs on your seadoo. The repair manuals have everything from troubleshooting, repair procedures to winterizing. It contains wire diagrams torque specs and pictures for disassemble and assemble instructions. In the spec sheets it tells everything needed to maintain oil changes, spark plug gaps, carburetor rebuilds and impeller wear ring tolerances. Click on the "Seadoo Manuals" link at the top of the page for more details. If you need any help or get in a jam, we are always here to answer your questions too. Thank you karl,
I had thought of that but it just didn't seem like it would diesel that long. What fuel lines do you recommend? When it was running bad I did check the plugs and it never appeared to be lean. Even when it did come out of it for a bit. I guess I will get on the carbs and pull the filters before I get to worked up and the reply back. I do like the looks of your premium membership, I will look into it tonight when I get home.
Where is the best setting for the oil pump on this motor? I have it set so the marks are lined up at a idle.

Thanks

That is where the oil pump should be, so it is in sync with the throttle cables too. Go to like Auto Zone to get the black fuel lines. Bring a sample to get the exact size. Measure for the total length and replace each one, at a time so as not to get them mixed up. You can use carb cleaner and compressed air on the carbs to clean them. Be careful not to tear or damage the diaphragms in the carbs or you 'll have to get a rebuild kit for them.

Thanks for the help!! I got it running alot better. After replacing lines and cleaning filters, we had the problem solved. It runs fine but I thought it should run a little stronger than it does. It takes of at wide open and goes to 7100 rpms and then falls to 6800 r's. Does that seem a little low, I could get 60 on the gauge and that was it. The pump has a new wear ring and impellar. It was replaced with a stock impellar.

I could be wrong but I would not think that 300 rpms would give you more than 2 to 5 mph more. If I were to guess I would say 2 mph at the most.
