Hey guy's the right engine in
MY speedster dies at full throttle it will start right back up I think it's the voltage regulator my 1997 xp used to do it but I have no idea where it is. Please help

It's mounted on the right side on the mag housing if you're on the swim platform looking forward. There's one on each engine. To know what your looking for, look between both engines look at the port (left) engine, you'll see it mounted to a little aluminum plate, the starboard engine will have one in the same place. It's easier to see the port one to know what you're looking for.

When was the last time the carbs were gone thru? Also if you're running the original divorced fuel pumps they could be getting tired.

It's been a couple years since I did the carbs I'm ordered the kits for the carb on the engine that is dying.
What do you mean by the divorced fuel pumps?

I think your boat has fuel pumps separate (divorced) from the carbs. They also mount to a plate where the head pipe wraps around.

Oh I will have to check into that I thought it was a pulse line from the carb like in the other 787 engine I have in my xp.

I could be wrong, but I know on my 99 they're divorced. I'll check the fiche later

Item # 18 is the fuel pump, so they should be divorced from the carbs.

Lower left of explosion drawing #8, that is your regulator, give you an idea on where it is.. If you want to test it, just unplug it all together, that engine just won't charge. You'll tell if that is the problem throwing AC back into the system. But, I'm gonna say that's probably not the issue.

Thanks for your help I will let you know I'll start with the easy things and move on to fuel pumps.

The pumps are hard to come by. But guys have used different mikuni ones and block the extra port.

Nice I found lots of those for around 40 bucks shipped. I'm gonna do the carbs cut the wires back a 1/4 inch and change the plugs before I get this thanks for the info.

Ok so I got it running today and it now does not die at full throttle any more runs like new. But now it is super hard to start when it gets running it's great. It's very hard to get started cold. And after you drive around for a while it will start right up but if you let it sit its very hard to start again it never did this before I took the carbs apart. Should I change the needle and seats if so what's stock for a 1998 speedster.
