I've lived in the car world for the last 20 years. Every time I get something, I'm always looking to mod it. Supercharged, turbocharged, exhaust etc, etc.

Since I'm new to boating, I'm wondering if there any speed mods that you can do with a stock '98 speedster? I read a thread posted a while back about replacing wear rings (might affect top speed a bit) but that's more just getting it back to factory spec. With a GPS app on my phone, on a pretty calm lake, I was able to get it up to about 48-49 mph. Would love to get it up to closer to 60. Possible? Stupid idea?

All input welcome. Thanks guys.

Possible... Yes. Stupid... also yes.

The problem is... the 2 little engines in that boat are already putting out more power than any supper car built. You are looking at 138 hp/L !!! So... if you ask too much more out of them... they won't last very long. Not to mention, the reliability go away. Also... it takes A LOT of power, to make a small change on the water. So... if you get a set of pipes, waterboxes, tune the carbs, and put on a little higher compression head.... you may get an extra 15 hp out of each engine. But that increase in power still won't get you to the 60 mph mark. (and you would have spent a few thou)

I love good mods... but if you want to go faster on the water... then get a boat with bigger engines. Some of the last years of the seadoo boats had over 500 hp with a pair of supercharged engines. (they get into the 60 range)

With that said... the 16' speedster should be in the low 50's. I would check the wear rings, and impellers. Also... if you have a Bimini top... and it's up... that thing is a huge parachute. take it off, and you will gain 5 mph.

Thanks for the reply. Don't have a top on it.. so that's not the issue. I'll check out the wear rings and impellers. Sounds like that's a good place to start. And yes.. I know I could get a newer boat. But I like this one (some sick fetish with buying something and spending FAR more than it would cost to buy a newer/better/faster vehicle) haha..
