I just purchased this speedster from an auction. No lanyard so I purchased one and had it programmed from local dealer. Left engine fired up with no problem but right engine doesn't do anything. No beep no nothing. I shorted across the terminals on the selenoid and engine cranked but I get nothing from the on off switch. Single large battery setup with one large red cable to positive terminal. I switched plugs on the 2 on off switches and the left engine starts with the right switch but not visa versa. I have checked all fuses and found to be good. Any easy place to start with a test light? thanks in advance...

Since it has a single MPEM (computer) I would start with checking the fuses... and making sure that the wires going from the start/stop switch are OK.

It's not common for half the MPEM to be dead.

Since the right side on off switch will start the left motor when I reverse the plugs that tells me the switch is good. I get no beep on the right switch, does the beeper have a role in completing the circuit to the selenoid? Is there a fuse in between? Is there only one beeper? I have checked all visible fuses, I think it is something simple but sometimes those are the hardest things to locate. Thanks in advance...

The buzzer is just a path to ground a few items. It's not part of the starting circuit. (and there is only one)

Try this.... unplug the starter solenoid from the good engine... and plug it into the side that isn't working. Basically, figure out if it's just a bad solenoid. BUT... the lack of beeps worries me.

you may need to go to a dealer, and have them hook it into a BUDS system to see if the MPEM is responding correctly.

I would like to try the bypass that TradeMark had on his boat. He said that they ran 2 wires from the dead side motor selenoid to where? If anyone knows of this please help before I shell out $1800 for a new mpem. Thanks,

Unfortunately, you have 800 engines in your boat. The CDI unit, has to make a digital "Hand Shake" to make the engine run. Also... it's a DC-CDI unit... so the MPEM has to feed it power.

In the other thread... that person had 720 engines, and they are much more simple system. They can basically run on thier own, without any external power. More or less... you could disconnect all the wires, and only have the ignition coil hook to the MAG... and then pull start it.

Now that I'm sitting here thinking about it. Do you have a Black box beside each engine, where the ignition wires come from?? If you do... open the box on the dead side, and make sure nothing is corroded in it. AND... make sure it has a good, clean ground.

Last thing... did you go to a dealer yet, and have them check the MPEM with a BUDS unit?

That's identical to my old speedster. 1 started and other didn't do squat. It was the MPEM.
Where and who on earth has a new MPEM? They stopped making them years ago.
