Hola,

Ok, got to go play with the boat for an hour this weekend, everything checked out - sure like how easy the little guy tows around on that single axle trailer (my other boat is 6000 lb Trophy that tows like a pig with a 1/2 ton rig) Launch & load a snap, though slow speed maneuvering is going to take some getting used to.

Boat died twice while cruising - (bout 5k on the tachs) both engines running great then dead. Both times fired right back up, pretty sure I didn't have the key seated right on the post, took my time making sure it was really seated on the post after the second time and it was ok after that. Will clean up the lanyard and post and see if it re-occurs.

Anyway - after reading pages & pages on here and other forums, guess my biggest concern is the MPEM crapping out on this boat. I have heard there is a mod to use two brains off of skis as a work-around but I have not seen it detailed - anyone have a link? Don't have a problem right now, but always the good Boy Scout i like to be prepared.

There is a guy in AZ on craigslist offering a 1998 Speedster MPEM he says came of a running boat wants $450 for it - doubt I'd drop that kind of cash for a spare I may never need but if anyone is looking:

Last - is there anyone selling pre-cut upholstery kits for the 1998 Speedster? I looked on the SEADOOUPHOLSTERY.COM website but couldn't find it listed - the seat backs are all good on the boat (except the bow seat) but the bottom cushions all need to be recovered. Thought I'd try it myself before I go to a shop.

Thanks

Keith at Sea Doo upholstery doesnt have the 98 seat kits. He offered to make a set if I wanted to send him my seats to make a template. I just havent gotten time to do it yet. As long as you dont do anything silly to fry the MPEM, you should be safe.

Yah I agree with Foster ... wouldn't worry about the MPEM, just don't pull your tow rig up to your boat and boost it while your truck is running. I've heard the MPEM is VERY sensitive to voltage thresholds. Fact the both your engines are quitting at the same time and then easily fire back up sounds like a lanyard continuity prob. Clean up your lanyard with an eraser, and also hit the metal ring on the lanyard post with the eraser as well. That will likely sort this one out for yah. Then go have some fun!!
