Hi all,
My names John a few weeks ago I bought a '98 seadoo speedster. The boat is in show room condition garaged It's whole life etc. So we are going to try keep it as nice as the previous owner has. When searching the net I found it hard to get the answers about the boat I am looking for. The first is what model rotax engines would mine have ? All I know is that the rego papers it says each motor is 63kws. And the 2nd question is about oil. Now I've read alot online. But a seadoo mechanic I know said I can use shell nautilus oil in it as it because apparently mine has the more basic of the seadoo engines. The only reason that I ask about a substitue is that at all my local seadoo dealers it's is $110AUD per 4 liters. Does anyone else use the shell oil? Which is just stupid. Anyway if anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

That boat should have a pair of 800 engines in it. But... all you need to do is look at the engine tag on top of the MAG cover. It will say something like... Type 717 or Type 787.

As far as the oil... you can use any API-TC certified oil you want. DO NOT use a TC-w3 oil in a Rotax engine. (it wont live long on it) Unfortunately, all API-TC oils are expensive. If you have the 800 engines... you need a full synthetic API-TC oil to help keep the RAVE valves clean.

A quick search on the shell nautilus oil shows it's a TC-w3 oil. DO NOT USE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!

If you decide to get cheap on your oil... you won't have engines for very long.

You don't have to pay the price at the dealer for "XPS" oil... but you do need a certified API-TC oil. Since you can get shell oils down there... look at the Advaced Premium Snowmobile oil, or shell nautilus PWC oil.

Cheers mate. Had a look into it turns out it is really a '97 and has twin 720 engines. I decided against the cheap oil. I got chatting with the local dealership and seems that after a long chat that I can buy the oil off them for $60 for 4 liters. So I did. So I'm
Using the correct oil for the sake of a few dollars I'd rather put the correct stuff in.
I'm still getting used to the boat. I know this is a bit of a silly question. But my father would like to know if there is a way of getting these boats to be quieter. Like is there a mod to the exhaust. Because when putting along it's quite loud. Personally it doesn't bother me..
