Has anyone ever pulled a drive shaft out of a 1998 sea doo sporster twin. I need to replace the carbon seal and the shafts have no c-clips just a ring seal carrier holding everything in. Do I have to pull the motors just to replace the carbon seals. It is hard for me to believe I have to pull motors out just for that. Thanks

If have a carbon seal you have a c-clip. If not when you pull the pump and shaft would right out with out much effert like one with a bearing assembly. Also you would be able to move the whole carbon ring assembly. The clip is there under the metal ring. It could be upside down and you don't see the clip that well. Some people did convert boats over the bearing assemblies. You can tell just by looking at them. You will no boot and carbon seal and you will will a zirk fittitng in a piece of hose.

I do not see any c-clips I know its hard for me to believe too so I cut the rubber protection hose and broke out the carbon seal and no c-clips I think the ring seal carrier is a pressed fitting or something like that. I looked on e- bay and seen some shafts on there with just the ring seal carrier on them. Do you think they made some shafts with a pressed on ring seal carrier?

I have the same year boat unless the ring is just frozen on the shaft and won't move. Those boat come with the drive shafts with 3 gooves in them. The clip in right under the metal ring. It not in the boot or carbon seal. Spray some penetration oil on the metal ring and tap it with a hammer. This will only work if the pump is still on the boat to help support it and keep the driveshaft from moving. Since you cut the boot and seal away it should move. The ring moves towards the aft of the boat or towards the pump.

I will give that a try tonight and see what happens. The ring seal carrier on the shaft I can spin it on the shaft by hand but moving it up and down the shaft I need a hammer. Thanks for your input.

It does have some o-rings that might be holding it in place if they have tried up. But get some lube on it and it should move.

Your C Clip is hiding under that ring.

An open end wrench that fits over the shaft but not the ring will help. Tap it with a hammer.

On your boat you will have 3 groves for your c clip...the floating ring that pushes against the carbon ring is hiding them...sometimes that ring will be stuck in place...and you can not move it by hand.....if your going to replace all the driveshaft parts just simply get a hammer and lightly break the carbon seal off and get a razor knife and cut your bellow off to....this way u can get that floating ring off Easier if its stuck....once you see under it you will see how easy it is to install....pumps must come off..just make sure both ends of your driveshaft match back up and slides in nice or you will strip the splines right off...exspecisal when you put the pump back on...if it doesn't go don't just grang the bolts tight...line it up...engine alignment might be good to do at this time to

I worked on the boat this weekend and I found the c-clips little things are well hidded. Got one side done and now just waiting on part for the other. With some luck maybe back on the water for the 4th.Thanks for all the good advise fellow boaters. A helpful hint this is a two person job but if you take a 2 by 4 and drill two holes in it and put it over the hole where the jet pump was and use the bolts the pumps attach to it works well to hold the drive shaft in when you put the c-clips back in.
