Good Afternoon everyone, I am working on a GSX for a friend who is mechanically challenged. As a aircraft tech I am not mechanically challenged but not familiar with watercraft. His GSX is not starting. It turns over but no spark. What is driving the ignition coils? Do these coils have a history of going bad? Plugs are good and last check they were firing ok. I read some where I need a Bombardier tester to check the coils. I use to work for Bombardier in Windsor Locks Connecticut on the Learjet family of aircraft. I know they don't have any tester there for watercraft. Any resistance checks for the coils to check for open or short?

In the past I have driven it and it is good at high RPM's until I came off the throttle and it stumbles its way to a stall. Goosing it keeps it some what alive. It idles ok but come off of idle and I must goose it to hi RPM and then it is ok. My friend says it doesn't reach it top end speed like it should. It has always run pretty crappy since the day he bought it. And no he doesn't have a manual but if I am doing the work I will insist he get one.

you can lay plug on head, one at time, see if theres spark, then try cut'n wires back 1/4in on boot side, see if any,...for keep goos'n it, sounds, you need to rip thru fuel system, replace grey lines if in there, clean/replace the selector valve, inline filter, and rebuild the carb/s...

DESS (digital electronic security system)

When you connect the lanyard, do you get the two beeps? Without making communication with the MPEM (multipurpose electronic module), your not going to make much ground........

If you do get the two beeps, remove the plugs, keep the wires on them and in a dimly lite area, roll the engine over to check for spark........also, check the fuses. Make sure you haven't blown any, front or rear compartment.
