ok, so I flipped my 98 gsx ski on Monday and believe that I may have turned it over the wrong way and it was upside down for quite a while. so we got it turned back over and I started it barely and i ran it for about 3 min. Then I tried to get the other person that fell off back on. No budge too full of water for 2 people. So we ended up swimming it almost all the way back and finally someone realized we needed help and towed it about 200 ft back to the ramp. So we pulled it out and tried to start it and no go. tons of water came out of the plugs and we drove it home and still no start. we pulled the plugs and water and gas came out and every time we try to start it more water comes out the back. still no start. we are getting spark from the plug and it almost wants to start. so we sprayed starter fluid in it and now it is not as close to starting as it was. What should I do????? HELP PLEASE!!! Thank you :)

No starter fluid!........

This has been said a ga-zillion times in this forum.......DO NOT USE STARTER FLUID. There is no lubricating properties in it and the flash point is really high.
Now, for the motor. If you got spark, keep trying to start it. If you got water in the fuel and oil tank, then you'll have to change it all out.
But what ever you do, don't let the engine sit. It will seize up and rust. With the plugs out, keep rolling the engine over with the starter, keeping it dryed out. You can spray "gobs" of WD-40 in it to protect it from rusting. You can't over do it with the lubricant.
Your getting spark and your getting it to turn over. It's likely in your fuel system. Until you get a crank, keep turning it over to keep it lubricated. Can't say that enough..........Good luck:cheers:

:agree: just be sure to put the spark plug caps on the grounding studs to keep from doing any electrical harm. Time is of the essence, if left over night it could rust just like that, if it was salt water. Keep us posted.

Thanks

I really appreciate all of your advise. My friend told me to put fuel in the carbs?! Im not sure if I should listen to an auto mechanic but would that sound correct? I sprayed bombardier lube in the spark plug holes just about a billion times. Now when it is turned over it just makes a clicking sound...?

Clicking like it needs a charge? If if does do not use a "jump box" or connect the charger to it while it is connected to the PWC. It will surge the electrical components and cause more problems. If it doesn't have a full charge it will be hard to start also.

no go :(

Ok, so I took it to the dealer and they said that the engine is hydro locked and that I need a new short block. Also they think that a gear is chipped in the starter. What in the heck do I do? I just bought this for 3400 and only got 2 days out of it. They are telling me that it will be around 3000 to fix. Is there anything that I can do? Please please help me I just paid them $200 to tell me this and no work has been done on it.

Did you take it to a seadoo dealer or a marine repair shop? It sounds fishy that it needs a new engine...It got water in it. It should still be able to get running. It sounds like this dealer is trying to take advantage of you.

Dealer repair

It is a dealer. It is called SK Northwest here in Portland. He told me that i need a new starter too and the cost of a new starter including labor to put it in and get the water out of the engine alone is between $700 and $800 dollars. He said that he doesn't know if it will run once the starter is in but it is turning over and he said that is a good sign. He said that since it has 170 hours on it that is usually the time when a new motor is needed. He also said that the damage may have been done before hand and that it was running bad. I honestly don't speak mechanic but 800 for a starter and un water lock seems steep. We tested the ski out before we bought it and it ran great until we flipped and towed it. I am still confused though. I bought it for 3400 on Saturday, should I just sell it not running, take a loss and but another one? What would you reccommend? I really appreciate it :):(

take off rear flywheel cover and see if you can turn the motor over by hand with plugs out. if so, find starter solenoid and jump the 2 big terminals on top with a screwdriver or something. i use a long bolt so i don't arc up my tools. you might have just killed the solenoid by repeated cranking.

It works again!

Just wanted to thank everyone. I ended up having to take it to a shop. They said that since we tried turning it over with plugs in that all of the water pressure had to go somewhere and it went to the starter and we ended up having to put a new gear in it. So in the long run I believe that it was worth it it cost me $980 to get a new starter gear and take all of the water out of the engine. Thank all of you for all of your help!!!!!!!!!! I now know what to do in the future :hurray::):hurray:
