I bought a 1998 gtx rfi jet ski from a friend a few years ago that was in mint condition with low hours..ran fine other than the flashing 12v low message. Last year it started taking on water on the inside and after lots of searching..I discovered it had a busted water jacket on bottom side of motor..bad design..seems seadoo made a design change shortly after on model years moving the oring to the motor side. I measured up the busted water jacket plate and designed a new one and had it CNC'd at work out of aluminum..if anybody needs one..PM me. Anyway..the ski sat for a year before I got this figured out and a new plate made. I pulled the motor..installed the plate...got it all back together..fired it up..seemed ok except wouldn't hold idle without a little throttle help. Took it to the water and it wouldn't run while in the water. Took it back home..changed plugs..cleaned rave valves..installed a new rectifier which got rid of voltage low flashing..cleaned and had fuel injectors tested..new fuel pump and filters..checked all the sensors voltage I could with manual..cranked it up out of water..sounds good..revs up..but will die after a few seconds on idle if throttle is not bumped. Took it back to the water.. it will run up to about 2000rpm and anymore throttle will just bog it down. I have researched as much as I can and it seems I may need the tps adjusted or reset since I've pulled the cables off when pulling the motor. I can't find anybody who has the software to do this locally..assuming this is the problem. Anybody have any recommendations on what route to take? Sorry for the long post.

Also..compression. is coming in at 155 and 150

You will have to hook it up to budds or candoo to reset tps . What area are you in ?
Also post pic of the cnc'd plate if you have one.

In Lawrenceburg Tennessee..I have called around to local dealers and they are either we don't have the old software or we are not sure we have it..will check..nobody as of yet

I fell for the "Reset the TPS" issue when I got into RFI's as well. While you could have a TPS issue I have never reset a TPS and any problem go away. I've swapped computers without resetting the TPS and the skis ran fine. Nuthing wrong with resetting it of course. Things you need to question are... are the connectors connected to the correct component. There are two on the ski that can and do get swapped. One is the TPS and Air Pressure Sensor, the other is one of the Fuel Injectors and something else.

What is your fuel pressure? Verify that first. If you replaced the fuel pump is the tube lined up properly inside the canister? That design is ripe for misalignment and a pain in the azz. A fuel pressure check should identify that. Check the fuel pressure regulator as well but don't get to upset if it leaks down. I had one go down to 10PSI after a few minutes and the ski ran fine.

Do you have good fuel in the ski?

Download the manual and checked the electronics on plug number 4 on the MPEM. (there is a misprint in the manual regarding plug number One on one of the tests it should be plug number 11, you'll figure it out) Unplug all the main plugs going into the MPEM. I've had plugs with water in them and a little corrosion that prevented good contact. Gently clean the pins if that is the case. RFI's are sneaky.

Also, don't think a Candoo is gonna tell you much. Good ole fashion troubleshooting solves the problems. The components I think have the most effect is the speed sensor pick up and the Air Pressure Sensor. If you don't solve the problem pull the mag cover. Sometimes it gets funky in there. Good Luck !!

That's a bad azz cover !!! It's worth more than most of the skis in my yard. LOL

Do you have 56 to 60 psi fuel pressure?,,do you have 56 to 60 while it is running?,,,,it is easy to swap the rave selenoid connector with injector number 1 connector,,,I just did that,,lol,,, are you getting pulse to the injector at startup,,are you getting at least 5 volts to the injector at startup?,

I may have fallen for that TPS reset as well after hearing some new info. Just talked to the father in law again that had been using the ski before i got called to find/fix the water leak... he volunteered some more info.. when i told him what the ski was doing now and assuming i did something on the engine pull.. he said that it did the same thing to him last time he took it out. So that probably shoots down the TPS reset theory. Ill try and answer some questions from above. Pretty sure all my connections are good and hearing that it did this before i touched it.. probably so. Fuel pressure.. i only checked cranking fuel pressure which was good but i went on and replaced the pump/regulator and filter and that didn't change the problem. I changed gas even though it seemed fine so its got new fuel. I haven't checked the MPEM plugs.. that would be an easy great fix if that was the case. Ill check that as well. Sensors seemed to read fine on the meter per the manual specs but who knows. Ill double check. The mag cover.. i definetely have not checked that. Thanks for the advice. Let me know if you think of anything else and ill keep post my findings.

I bought a fuel regulator not long ago and it was set for 45 pounds. I called the people that sold it and they had no clue. The ski needs around 58psi to operate properly.

After I gave up and let a seadoo mechanic reset tps and tell me I had a bad injector on the mag side..then charge me $200 for that..I replaced the injector and magically..nothing changed..still wouldn't run..I tested everything again..down to my last thing to try..fixed..I had the stinking rave connector plugged into my fuel injector. I bet I read that 100 times in articles and said nope mine is good.. thanks for all the advice guys.

You BETTA LISTEN to POPPS dude !! He knows his chit !!

I got a RFI that quit running after I replaced the starter. It ran fine. Next day I started it.. it bogged. I spend 8 hours checking everything so far. Nuthing wrong but it dang sure won't run. I think it's the fuel. Times like these make me wish for carburetors, LOL but fuel injection is the ticket. Glad you got yours fixed.
