Found a 1998 GSX Limited that I may purchase. Want to find out what the experts here think it is worth before I go and look at it in person.
From the pictures it looks to be in good cosmetic shape and includes a trailer.
The motor is a 951cc Rotax. Jet pump, carbs were freshened up last year. New LED lights, wheels and tires (larger diameter) and wheel bearings/seals on trailer. Ski has a BRAND new VTS module/motor, fuel lines replaced, BRAND new sealed battery.

The bad is the last time the owner took it out it ate a bearing so it is at least going to need a crankshaft and bearings.

Seller is asking $1,000

Is it worth that considering the repairs it will probably need or is it worth much less?
I can handle the repairs and not concerned with a project but do not want to overpay either.
I have read that the 951 engine is known to have problems so is this something I should stay away from at any price?
Also on this year and model is there anything I should be concerned with?

Thanks

A crank would be about $375. Add in your time, gaskets, misc parts, etc...... $1000 sounds a bit high to me.

Anyone else have an idea of what this ski is worth? I have just started looking for a jet ski so have not seen enough to determine a value on my own.

well....... the limited 951 engine is the silver engine and is typically thought to be more reliable thn the others. But if you can do the work on your own and yes consider the price for the crank it probubly is a little high but i would say 800 for it if he takes it then run away with it. DO you have any idea of the hours that will make a big diff in the price and will the engine turn over if so get a compression reading before doing anything

He already has the head off so I can not do a compression check. I will be able to visually inspect the cylinders for damage. I do not know what the hours are at this time. I may offer him $700 and barring any major damage or wear I think I would come out OK.

See if the owner will let you look under the motor with an inspection mirror. If so...then look for cracks or a broken place in the engine case. If you cannot see a visible crack then I would say $800 tops.
If you see a crack, then most probably the rod was trying to come through the case and I wouldn't offer more than $500.

951 engines tend to bend a rod or send one through the case when they take a slug of water.
