1998 GSX Limited ran great, now won't crank

Guys, I finally got to test out my 98 gsx limited on Sunday. I put it in, dropped my wife off at a little island and took off for the first time. It ran excellent. When I got back, I went to cut it off with the stop button and it would'nt cut off. I pulled the kill switch or key off and it cut off. After that it would not turn over with the start button. However, I was able to turn it over with a screwdriver across the solenoid (sp). When I did this there was no fire to the plugs. Anyone got any ideas here. Thanks.
