1998 gs no start

My old 1998 gs won’t start - please help! Cranks good, has spark,has fuel. Battery and starter are good. Just won’t fire up after sitting over winter. Usually I just put starter fluid down carb and it starts up. Only odd development- when I put the lanyard on dess post I get a light on the gauge (like always) but the gas gauge needle doesn’t rise (which it always use to) and I get no beeps-

Is it really ok to put gas down cylinder? I assume I put the plugs back in to do the test

If it’s got spark and turns over should be no electrical problems. It could be flooded

spray fuel down the throats of the carb(s)

Is the spark strong and blue, or weak and barely visible? Cutting 1/4" off the ends of the plug wires will help if its weak.
Also, what color are your fuel hoses? If grey, replace and clean the green goo out of the carb(s) and fuel selector valve.
And/or do a compression test. should be around 150 psi.
