Ok I have narrowed my search down to the magneto is shorted. I Atleast one of the coils is bad. One cylinder (back one) has 145~147 psi for compression, the cylinder infront has about 25psi. So I need a piston and rings obviously... but did that cause the magneto to go bad? Would the low compression cause the crank to go bad then the clearence with the magneto to be to close because there would be a little wobble?

Im trying figure out what I need to do. If I have a bad crank id like to just send the motor out to have it rebuilt ($1000) If I can buy a magneto and piston and rings its going to be about ($600) ones cheaper but I dont want to buy a piston and rings if my crank is bad. Is there a way to tell if the crank is bad? I havent pulled the jugs off yet so I dont know how obvious its going to be.

Just would like to hear peoples thoughts. Does my logic seam to make since?

There was a problem with older mag pickups on the 800 motor. It was suppossed to have been fixed in 98 with better bolts for the pickup. I have also has problem with flywheel/stator bolts coming loose due to harmonics with an aftermarket pipe. Used grad 10 bolts and solved that. As far as the the crank being bad, in my experience the piston siezure usually comes first so u may be OK. Pretty plain to see when the jugs are removed. Check side to side and up and down movement on the rod. good luck
