Looking at picking up a 1997 SPX, can anybody tell me, if any, known problems or things to look for the 97's beside the usuall checks (comp, impeller, leaks, etc).

also what were the options on the SPX? (speed, hour meter, trim, etc)

-Thanks, Rich

Fuel lines, if grey, then I recommend if purchased, to replace those and before you ride, go thru carb/s..along w/ other things you mentioned.
More than likely, ski will sound great on the trailer and hose, but if lake nearby, take for a spin...also visually inspect the gap between the blade and wear ring, more than 1mm, boat wont run very well

that was one thing he mentioned, the ss impeller was cleaned up and a new wear ring installed last year.

Typically when should the wear ring be replaced (under normal conditions)?

As long as you stay away from rocks, crap float'n,...stuff get'n sucked thru, should last awhile, takes a second to look thru nozzle, you'll know when its bad,...performance!
I'd still check the ski over, think'n, if he starts get'n pissed, might be hide'n something?

What kind of compression (PSI) should I see in each cylinder of the SPX?

I know with my quads for the sand 125psi is minimum, while most of my stuff fruns 180psi.

Here is some information on the compression of the seadoos. The ideal compression is 150 psi per cylinder. If it is less, it's not a problem as long as they are close to being the same. If the psi is less than 90 it might need be time for a tear down and a rebuild. If the psi in 1 cylinder is say 140 psi and the other is 80 psi you need to tear down and repair. This difference is a lot and there is a problem. I hope this helps you.
