I have a 97 sportster that won't start. When I attach the "key" it gives me the 2 beeps.....I cannot get the single beep that tells me it is in neutral. When i put it in neutral and push start...it gives me the 4 beeps that it isn't in neutral. I thought iut was the neutral switch and replaced it. That wasn't it. Still does the same thing. I even bypassed the neutral switch and i still get the 4 beeps. Any ideas of what it could be?

Thanks,

Glenn

Try "Bypassing" the switch, at the wires, directly at the MPEM. If that works... then you have a break in the wires somewhere. If it doesn't... then there could be an issue with the MPEM.

Sorry for being a novice, What's the MPEM? Where is it located? Is it like the computer of a car?

Thanks

Yes its the computer that controls pretty much everything on your boat. On my Sportster 1800 its in the engine compartment, mounted on the wall between engine area and drivers seat..
