I have a question, if my intake and return line to the carb were reversed, would it:
1) Even run
2) Still shoot fuel into the carb from 0-50% throttle when turned off and just playing with the throttle and looking in to the carb.
3) Run like crap and not rev out past 3-4000 RPM's when on the lake under a load, but run/sound perfect off the water.?
I am asking because I have had an issue with my port engine not revving out. It has decent compression on both cylinders (125/130PSI) and I recently put a new rotary valve in and rebuilt carb.
I thought it was a carb issue so I swapped my carbs and guess what, the port engine still wont rev with the carb off the starboard side that runs fine.
I am thinking the compression is decent enough because my starboard engine has the same compression and runs pretty damn good.
I am so tired of making changes/fixes, loading up....driving to the lake...paying $10 to get a pass....backing the trailer into the water....just to have the engine run like crap once in the water. It then adds insult to injury by firing up instantly and sounding like its brand new the second I pull it out.
Anyway, the guy I bought it from is a total POS for several reasons. One of those reasons is he put some wrong parts in the drive system causing severe cavitation (which I became knowledgeable on thanks to everyone here, and fixed!)and I didnt think to check if he had reversed the lines to the carb too. I know, I am a dumbass if that's the problem but just wondering if these are symptoms of reversed lines and it not revving under a load.
This is my first boat and I learned my lesson when I didn't water test before buying. I like working on things and learning how to fix these drive systems and engines so its not really bothering me that I trusted this guy and he duped me, but the back and forth to the lake is really wearing on me...and more importantly ...THE WIFE is getting tired of it! Happy wife, happy life...right guys. =)
