Hey All- First post! My neighbor and I recently went in on a speedster together and are doing some minor adjustments. It is in good shape, however, recently the port engine has gone from 3k rpms at idle to 7k rpms when shifted into Forward. We have not tried it under load yet, but the SB side does not do this. What could our issue be?

Thanks so much for this forum! We have already used much of the wisdom!

Sometimes a small air leak can cause it to runaway. Pull the choke for a could seconds... and it may settle down.

BUT... check the throttle cable at the carbs... and make sure they are moving.

If it's a runaway from a slightly lean idle... it won't do it when in the water.

Thanks for the reply! We just went out for our water test and when it was under load, we did not experience the revving. We did, however, experience the port motor jumping between 4 and 6 rpms. It might just be from the chop and cavitation, but the sb side did not do that. Maybe we have a loose throttle cable?

Thanks for the support!
