i have a 97 sportster the engine will start but runs rough try to give it gas and it dies, the other day it ran good for about 5 minutes then it died and would not start, then the next day on the trailer it started but did not run very well, having a problem trying to figure it out, also does my boat have rave valves? it has the 720 engine in, it has good spark and fuel, any help is apperciated.

717cc engine?

No, your motor doesn't have the RAVE system. Your problem sounds like it's in the carbs......

Do you still have grey fuel lines? If so, do a search on the tool bar from above, key word "grey fuel lines".

If not, then you'll need to take and clean them. But before you do, make sure the low speed screws are set at 1 and 1/4 turns open. Then give it a try. Still rough, open just a tad more on each carb. Still rough, remove the carbs and clean them out. Be careful and you can reuse the gaskets. If not, you'll need a carb rebuild kit...........about $25 bucks or so...

got it fixed

had a good weekend on the water a little late in the year but still have a few more good weekends.
