I cant believe the problems I'm having with this boat ugh! When I start one engine the other one shuts off and wont re-start. I start one side and it runs for a little then the other side shuts off. When I go to re-start the side that shut off theres no click, no anything when I try to start, dead. I switched starting switches and they worked with the side that was able to crank didn't with the other, so its not the switch. I noticed when I disconnect the battery there is some draw when I reconnect. MPEM all good, no blown fuses, get signature two beeps. once I do this I am able to at least start both engines again and then same deal "start one and then the second one dies shortly after". I cleaned terminals, checked for shorts, nothing. I thought I had blown MPEM and got a second, reconnected and same problem. What is wrong with this thing. It just shuts off and wont restart on the side that died and its like that side doesnt exist anymore. I disconnect battery and reconnect and at least I get start from one then the other. I am also able to run either side solo for a period of time but as soon as I go to start the other, BAM, 2 seconds and it goes down. I am puzzled, I didn't do anything bad to anyone recently so I dont think it's Karma or Voodoo, please any advise would be appreciated, Thanks all, Ted

Ted,

I'm going to think about this for awhile and get back to you but it sure sounds like a pissed off ex-wife or ex-girlfriend situation to me!

Have you done any repairs to the boat lately?

Have you added any accessories lately? (radio, etc.)

Try unplugging the voltage regulators and see if that changes anything.

Take a pair of jumper cables and make a temporary ground from the engines to the neg. post on the battery.

I was thinking ground, nthe first time it broke down we were out in super chop. Good idea with jmper cables I'm going to give ut a shot in a little while. What happens if I disconnect voltage regulators? I'm not going to fry anything by running them right? Well Dennis I thank you, I will let you know if it works.

It won't hurt anything to run the engines with the voltage regulators unplugged. They just won't be charging the battery. Have the engines off when connecting or disconnecting the regulators to avoid any type of voltage spike. I'm thinking maybe the charging system is somehow back feeding the MPEM causing weird (ex-girlfriend) type issues. Good luck.

Now I hook up the lanyard and get the two beeps (at first they were weak) but I'm getting very short cranks that won't turn it over,I'm puzzledngoing to keep messing with it, if a lanyard post or key goes bad would it let the engine make two short cranks? I get that from both engines. Then if I keep trying and one engine won't let me do it anymore I disconnect and reconnect the battery and I can attempt to start that engine with the short crank again. Thats with everything still connected.

All fuses and everything are good, but I get these short cranks now like engines want to go but then they just shut off. I can't figure this out. Magnet in a key? Dess post? These things Just crank for a second and shut down. I hooked up jumper cables all over the engines, same results.

Now you're describing a bad/weak battery or a bad battery connection. Will it crank with the spark plugs out?

Went out bought new battery, ran and cleaned up all new ground wires, still cranks and just shuts down, either motor same deal, crank and quick shut down. I disconnected voltage regulators, no good same deal. Bought new key just to see if it was, no good same deal, cranks and shuts right down. Just went out disconnected spark plugs and same deal, short crank, shut down. I told you this is a tough one Dennis, but I appreciate all the help, I did talk about selling her and upgrading, maybe thats it, I thank you for your help and any advise you have from here would be greatly appreciated.

Oh while I was in there I cleaned up both Positive starter wires on both motors and checked every single connection to make sure they were connected, I'm puzzled buddy

They are not going to start with plugs removed. So you're saying that the engines only crank a couple of seconds and then stop cranking?

Maybe I'm missing something here and gawd I hope I am but, can you get one to actually turn over and run, then start the other engine and run? My 1800 takes several seconds of holding the switch down to get it to actually crank and continue to run. From the video I'm seeing your not giving them a chance to actually even turn over or am I missing something??

If it was that easy my problem would be solved ;)problem is now it only allows me to crank it for like the two seconds and then it shuts down. Not the switch, not voltage, not starter, not ground, Im puzzled but thank you for asking.

Hey Dennis I disconnected the two aftermarket MPEMs from one another and now it starts and runs, problem is I don't know how to shut them off now as lanyard and switches are no longer functional. Dennis I thank you for all your help ref. this problem. Any ideas on how to run a kill switch?
