I bought a 1997 gtx from a neighbor. It had been sitting for over a year. Cleaned fuel system out and fired it up. He did put new plugs, plug wires, and coil an before I bought it. It ran ok for about three minutes and then just shut down. I did run a compression test before starting it up and got 100psi in one cylinder and 130 in the other. After it died I tried over and over to restart it with no success. If I chock it it will sputter a bit, I'll give it a bit of throttle and nothing. I retested the compression and got 100 in the one cylinder again and nothing in the other.

Ok. Any advise from anyone more experienced than I am. I figured I would just replace both pistons with rings, have the cylinders honed out and change the reeds. Are ther reeds on this 1997 gtx? Does it sound like I'm going about this the correct way or could it be something else. I am mechanically inclined and didn't want to spend the money to have someone else tear it down and put it back together. I don't need to pull the entire motor out do I?

PLEASE HELP ME, SOMEONE!!!

no reeds and no need to pull motor, that is unless its leak'n oil in the journal area. Then you have some issues.

Pullthe carbs, and tear them apart, along with, pulling the raves out (under the black caps), and clean them

If I were you I would leak test the crankcase. I had a simular situation and rebuilt the top end only and found out the reason the one cylinder was so low was caused by a crank seal leak and running lean in one cylinder. Now my other ski has a bad inner crank seal. A ski that old my have a seal problem. Worth the time. I built my own tester for about $12.
