We've all seen this thread... no spark. MPEM replaced (2 beeps), starter turns engine all day, gauges work, fuses are all good.. WTF?

I don't now if the coil is working. It seems unlikely that a short exists, and that a 2nd MPEM is bad (although, MPEM's are stupid)

Ideas?

thanks!

Tristan

Have you tried HOLDING the spark plug in your hands, and cranking it, and seeing if it knocks you on your b-hind?:ack:

To do this, you REMOVE the plugs, then insert them into the spark plug wire, and then without grounding them, just hold them! (don't do this if you wear a pacemaker!)

(I am an old throwback to the coil, condenser, and points age. You used to be able to do this, but with HIGH ENERGY ignition, it is a real jolt!)

Severely fouled plugs will do exactly what you posted!

I speak 'points' too... but sadly, there is no spark in any circumstance. new plugs, holding wire, nor old plugs... nothing in either hole. But thanks!

Trying to keep this thread alive... I've searched this site and others extensively, and have not seen this exact problem.. any help is appreciated.

hey....try cut'n back wires 1/4in. from boots, then reinstall. If your convinced that it isnt cables/grounds have'n good connects, then possible coil or stator(igniting coil on stator assy)...

Thanks!

Anyone pulled the flywheel off one of these lately? I put a puller on with about 100+lbs of torque and it's stuck... I don't see much with that kind of torque, so I don't wanna break anything. Obviously, I'm trying to check the stator/magneto.. is there a simpler test than "visual"?

Also, what are odds of the stator/pickup going bad vs. the coil? Trying to play the odds here...

it's a simple friggin toy... motor, gas, air... and yet the silly thing eludes me... I may have to pull the motor just to show it who's boss... haha

crank the puller tight and hit the flywheel right next to the crankshaft thread with some heat. i use home depot oxy-mapp cheapy set-up, but i think a propane torch would do the trick. you don't need or want cherry red, it just expands the ID of the flywheel hole and relaxes the press fit. it is on TIGHT.
