Hello been reading posts for days but can not find my same issue I have 1997 787 gsx bought from a guy who was determined to show me it would start after cranking the hell out of it over and over worried he would burn the starter i told him the carb need cleaning from sitting but he still tried and it started brought home cleaned carbs took it out on the water ran as good as the bad wear ring would let it stalled and hasnt started ever since.get the clunk clunk with the plugs in spins like a champ plugs out.new battery charged even charged car battery was tested, new starter from db electric, applied ground to block with 4 gauge jumper cables and posi to starter post to bypass wiring and solenoid same deal.when turning over with plugs out and apply finger to either plug hole motor imediately bogs down not even covering hole all the way. when turning motor over with plugs out at 15sec interval and waiting 1-2 min inbetween never get anything out of the cylinders oil/fuel water nothing. I do have a hull full of oil tank was full now empty leaked out over a month or two source seems to be line but not 100 percent sure using mirrors cannot see source I read that there is a anti hydrolock port thats always open and if oil is filling up case and overflowed from there I'm at the point of checking case to pull oil from cylinder ports put if its hydro'd wouldn't it blow something out of cylinders or is it possible to have a full case with same symptoms :banghead: thank in advance for support.

Slow down. You are all over the place. If the engine cranks FAST with the plugs out. It should crank with the plugs in. If not you probably have a bad battery or starter or cables. Stick to one thing. Does the engine turn over fast with the plugs out?

By the way. You should get the oil out of the hull first. I don't know how much is in there but, if your stator is drowning in oil that will not help the starting diagnosis.

I think your problem is the crap import starter that you got from db electric.

We have yet to find any starter... other that Nippon Denso to work properly.

If you still have the OEM starter... clean it, and put in new brushes, and I bet your starting issues will be gone.

Sorry, confused by the finger covering spark plug hole description. Are you saying the motor makes no compression or the starter is not strong enough to turn the motor over when compression is made?

sorry if i seem all over the place but the engine cranks FAST with plugs out does not turn over with plugs in both cylinders or one or the other I used two brand new batteries fully charged and one fully charged car battery with 4 gauge jumper cables applied directly to block and starter to rule out cables and solenoid oil is not high it does not reach motor about 1/2 inch deep in places maybe this new db starter

i have oem starter and replaced the brushes still same issue before I bought the dbstarter which had decent reviews

motor seems to have compression but no where to go as I apply my finger to only one cylinder with both plugs out the motor spins free and fast immediatly slows down depending how much i cover the hole I released the rave valves held throttle open nothing shoots out but air I even poured a capfull of 2 stroke oil down cylinders to protect the walls during the cranking process I wont get an accurate compression reading as the motor wont spin over with adapter on

I have replaced brushes and contact on oem stator looked good before I bought dbstarter I guess a start is I remember the new starter had ears painted maybe not a good mating surface for ground gonna pull it and clean it and see if I can pull any oil from crank case though cylinder port or through carb/rotary valve cant think of any thing else this puppy ran until I put the wear ring in I guess I can check the pump for restriction will update what I find.

this puppy ran until I put the wear ring in QUOTE] That's maybe your issue. If the pump spun freely by hand and didn't bind before it was installed; I would get a new starter. This assumes that everything is lined up, and you can spin the engine by hand pretty easiliy with the plugs out and all your connections and cables are good.
