First this ins't my boat Its my neighbor who is from Albania and his English translation isn't the best so I am helping him out.
1997 Sea Doo Challenger 787 one engine.
He just bought this boat.
When he bought it the guy started it up on land and showed it to him.
He brought it home and I went out with him the next day. When we got to the docks and put into the water it wouldn't start. It'd fire up but never turn over. So pulled it out and brought it back. By mid after noon he had it firing up so we went back out. I know he changed the plugs but don't recall what else he did to get it to fire up. Still little hesitant to start but did. Takes about 2-4 times to get it to fire up.
We putted out to the flats and when he opened it up, the front end would come up to were I thought we were gonna flip over, the engine revved up but no get up and go. And when he would speed up slowly sometimes it would act like it was dying then seem to "catch" and then go like a bat out of hell for a few minutes then sputter back to putting along . Thing was flying tho when it got up and went . But it wouldn't do it consistently and not very often. While out there noticed that the trim lever wasn't working right.
So next day he got a trim cable and replaced it. I didn't go out this time but when he got back said didn't fix the issue and the same stuff going on. Engine wanting to run but not going any were.
So were do we or I should say he look for the problem(s) ?
Hope that is enough info.
Thanks for the time and help.

do compression test. if compression is good.(post results), service and clean rave valves, clean and rebuild carbs. only use the proper synthetic injection oil. xps2

Something to also consider, if you're revving but the boat is not moving, there could also be some issue with the jet pump like cavitation or something.

compression test results

Thanks. So he did a compression test to day and both cylinders were around 110 he said.
Attached are pics of the Rave valves.

I took some phone video of the engine running off the hose. There to me seems to be a "rattling" noise coming from underneath the boat. I couldn't really pin point it.
Starting with the video engine 6 -OPP I had him put the new plugs we bought when he first got and it wouldn't start. To me the rattling sounded less but could have been deaf by then. When he runs it the plugs are somewhat wet when he pulls them out.

rattling is kind of normal seadoo came out with an anti rattle nose cone. search one of the site supporters. but the knocking isnt. probabally rave valve. and why is there so much water in bilge? are you watering your carbon seal? or is it leaking from exhaust

Thanks.
I will have to check on the water issue. Not sure if it was in there from when he tested it or from cleaning it. If he did't put it there its this carbon seal doodad ?
I must be tone deaf or hearing is worse than I thought. I didn't hear the knocking but maybe just tuned in the rattling more.
Thanks.

lol okay. He had taken those out and replaced them. They were the old ones and I didn't know he had changed them when I took pics of them. He put another set in he got from the a jetski. He also said the "new" set were sharper feeling and cleaner looking. I didn't see them tho.
Anyways looking at the pic what is upside down ? I can't tell cuz they look the same to me. Thats why I'm not a mechanic. lol
Thanks

Rave Valve 2.jpg cut out in housing faces down . valve marked top faces up. measure original vs the ones you installed . the original may have been trimmed if pistons are oversize. which would explain knockingRave Valve1.jpg
