I thought I read somewhere that there's a 15A 12v accessory circuit on a 1997 Speedster. I'd like to mount a 12v cigarette lighter plug and possibly a Bluetooth stereo amp.
Where can I tap into this? Do I need to do this from inside the electrical box in the engine compartment? Or is there a wire already running up to the instrument panel?
Plus, is this curcuit always hot or only when the ignition is on?
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure there is. Not sure if it's 15a but I THINK there's one in the front fuse box. I also have a 12v plug in order and hope to install it in the bucket or something.

There should be a plug that doesn't plug into anything with "Orange (12v) and Black (Ground)" wires. This is if no one has ever messed with the wiring.

Where is that "Orange (12v) and Black (Ground)"? Near the interment cluster or in the back engine compartment?
I've been thinking of mounting a 12v cigarette lighter plug and a dual usb charging plug(there's all over ebay) in the back. Under the storage hatch to the left or right of the engine cover. This way I can plug my phone back under the storage hatch and lay it on top of the life preservers without any worry that it would fly out of the boat. That side lip on the right and left has easy access behind it for the wiring.
I first thought of mounting it up under the cockpit but there's nowhere to store your phone then.
Thanks.

Since you don't really say what boat you have... it makes it a little harder. (Size)

But, if you look at the fuse block behind the helm... there is normally orange and black wires, not hooked to anything. (and possibly on a plug) That's your switched 12v for a radio.

If you have a larger boat (16' or 18') that that is already hooked to the factory radio.

Not to sure if it is the same, but I have a Challenger and the orange and black wire is in the storage behind the gauges.

Oh, one more important question. Is that accessory circuit hot all the time? When the key is out that is.
Thanks.

That is hot all the time it's not dependant on the key being on the DESS post. Here's a pic of the packard connector they use with the end off, all you need to do is remove the watertight end plugs from the blank and you're good to go.

If you lift out the storage bucket it's cable tied into the main harness usually just look for the orange wire it's the only one in there.

I have a 2001 Challenger. What set up did you end up with? Where did you mount it, storage area or under steering wheel? Did you cut the Orange and Black connector and just tie in?
