Hi my name is leo and i live in Ireland. Im emailing you cause i own a 1996 seadoo xp and im in trouble once again and you seem to know what you are talking about and im hoping you can help me. I see you help out another person with there seadoo xp well my story is the same as his. Im just after rebuilding my seadoo xp it was not ruinning for 3 years and this summer im just after reedoing everthing in it. I went to start it and the key wont beep at all all the wireing and fuses are good. If i press the start button with out the key in it all the lights come on but when the key is in it, it justs beeps once. I dont have a seadoo dealer here near me there is no real dealer ship here in Ireland. Some people are telling me that i will need to get the ski programed. Can you tell me is there anyway of doing this without bring it to a dealer. I see on the internet 2 dess keys and a Electrical Box MPEM for sale they came out ot a 1996 seadoo xp and are in very good condition. If i bought it would it work in my ski if i was to take out my old mpem box or do you know of anythig else i could do . Thank you for you time kind regards

Welcome to the seadoo forum Leo. It sounds like if you getting 1 beep that the DESS lanyard isn't communicating to the MPEM. I would start by cleaning the Post on the safety lanyard. It is beeping and saying it isn't connecting to the Mpem, (Multi Purpose Electronic Module) It needs to beep 2 times to let you know it is ready to start. Clean the post and cap with soapy water. Don't use any grease of lubricant on it as it needs a clean connection to make contact. Connect the lanyard to see if it is making a connection. 2 beeps and it's ready to fire up.
If it needs to be programed only a "seadoo dealer" can program it.
Keep us posted.

Hey Karl thanks for getting back to me. Just wondering if i was to buy an mpem box with 2 lanyard keys could i just take out my old mpem box and use that would it work.

yes you could switch mpems with one that is programmed to the keys that came with it. there are also people who can program an mpem you send them. i also saw, i don't remember where, a guy who does ignition recurving. and he can set up an mpem so any key will run it.

Hey derek i wasnt sure if you can do that i see on ebay a person selling a mpem box with 2 keys that are working so if i was to rip out my 1 and use that it should do the job for my ski by the way its costing 180 dollras.
