First of all I am a new sea doo owner and I am doing more wrenching than riding. I tried searching and didn't come up with an answer that could help me so here goes:

1996 xp
new sbt motor 6hours
rebuilt carbs 1 hour
New fuel lines
New Battery (2 weeks old)

After warming the ski up, I took it on the water for approx. 10 minutes and while on the throttle it just died. After it died, I tried to put the dess key back on and didn't get any beeps at all. I have a new battery on it and all of the connections/ grounds are tight. The fuses are also good. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also if you guys need more info let me know.

Thanks,
Tim

I had the same problem with my 1998 gti what happened was I got water in my solenoid box and it fried the fuse in there which in turn fried my mpem computer so you might want to check that out.

welcome to the seadoo forum blkscorpion. It sound like you have a dirty DESS,( Digital Electronic Security System).I would start by cleaning the Post on the safety lanyard. It is beeping and saying it isn't connecting to the Mpem, (Multi Purpose Electronic Module) It needs to beep 2 times to let you know it is ready to start. Clean the post and cap with soapy water. Don't use any grease of lubricant on it as it needs a clean connection to make contact. Connect the lanyard to see if it is making a connection. 2 beeps and it's ready to fire up. Keep us posted if this doesn't help the problem.

Thanks for the replys fellas. I cleaned the post as well as the dess and still no beeps/no starting. All fuses are ok.

Here are some tests to try.

Engine start/stop switch verification;
Disconnect the Yellow/Red wire of the start/stop switch. Using an ohmmeter, connect test probes to the Yellow/Red wire and to ground. Measure resistance, it must be an open circuit (switch is normally open). Depress and hold switch, the ohmmeter should read close to “0” ohm.

Safety Lanyard Switch Verification;
If 2 short beeps are not heard when installing the safety lanyard, disconnect the switch wires.
Safety lanyard removed;
connect the test probes to switch Black and Black/Yellow wires. It’s an open circuit, there should be no continuity.
Connect one test probe to the White/Gray wire and the other test probe to the switch terminal. Measure resistance, it should be “0” ohm. Connect one test probe to the Black wire and the other test probe to the switch ring. Measure resistance, it must be close to “0” ohm.
Safety lanyard on switch; connect the probes to switch Black and Black /Yellow wires. Measure resistance, it must be “0” ohm.
Timer Verification;
The timer is integrated into the MPEM. Always confirm that the fuses are in good condition. To confirm operation of timer, remove the safety lanyard from switch. After 5 seconds delay, depress start/stop button once. The timer should stay on for 33 seconds (for example, the gauge(s) will be activated) and than turn off.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Finally got her running!:hurray: One of the wires leading to the solenoid was barely hanging on. Thanks to all that tried to help.

****How crucial is it to have the black fuse cover on the fuses inside of the gray box***

the covers protect them from moisture as a barrier.You will noticed they are water sealed and protected from corrosion.

Im not sure if your response answered my question. I have two of the three covers. Can I ride the ski without covering the third fuse?

I'd order one...until you recieve it, do your best not to drown the compartment, also, maybe electrical grease, keep moisture out for now...

I've got the same problem with my 97 gsx. No beebs, and the display doesnt come on either.
Any ideas?
Checked the connections as well as I could, and couldnt seem to find anything loose.
Took out the black box at the front of the ski and am gonna bring it to the local dealership. Can they check to see if its still good?

I would protect the fuses to be sure it doesn't get wet. It could cause a blown fuse or a short it it gets wet.

Sorry I mis read your question...
