Hi guy's I'm hoping we can figure out this anoying problem I've been having.I bought a 1996 xp 800 from a friend that has had this sitting in his yard for the last 7 years. So far I have chcked comp 160 per side, rebuilt carbs, replace vts system, mod, gauge, vts boot.I took it out and I have what I believe to be a lean bog just of idle sometimes it dies or I have to feather the throtle to get it going after that it runs great. But if it idles for 2 long bogs and dies.High speed screw set at 0,low speed set at 1.5. I reset the idle when I rebuilt the carbs I know that I'm supoosed to be @3000 rpm out of water 1500 in and I don't have a tach I have had the jet in and out of the water messing with the low speed scews with little change. How many turns out is the idle scew set at?

The High Speed screw is set at "0" with the plastic cap on it. The Low Speed screw is set at 1 1/2 turns out. The Idle screw is used to adjust both carbs. Do not use the Low Speed screws to adjust the idle. Use th idle screw that adjust both carbs. While adjusting the idle screw check the injector cables and injector pump also. First you need to adjust the carburetor idle so the speed adjust touches the adjustment plate. Turn the screw 2 more turns. Turn the cable adjustment screw to align the marks on the Injector pump. Look closely and you’ll see the marks on the cable disk and the pump. Use a mirror if necessary. The throttle and oil injector must be synchronized to react at the same time. This adjustment is the same on single or dual carb models.
I hope this helps you out a bit.

Thanks I'll give it a shot I;m pretty confident this will work.I would bet that the idle screw is only about 3/4 turn out Max.I'll keep you posted on the progress.

idle and LSA...

The low speed adjuster is used in conjunction with the idle stop screw to adjust and maintain idle speed and smoothness. Experiment turning the low speed adjuster in and out in small increments until a smooth idle is obtained. As the idle stop screw is turned in our out to raise or lower idle speed the low speed mixture is also affected. For clarification, if the idle stop screw is turned out to lower idle speed, this action increases manifold pressure slightly and richens the low speed mixture so that a mixture adjustment may be required. The low speed adjuster is very sensitive and adjustments should be made in small increments only.

Note: Remember, the low speed adjuster is only for adjusting the idle mixture. If you use the adjuster to help get rid of a low speed hesitation, you will probably find that your engine will load up in no wake zones, or after extended idling.
