I have 96 spx that was working fine execpt for vts. I put in a new motor then tested it and seemed to work fine. I went back a couple of hours later and tested it again but when I pushed the start button without the lanyard on it nothing happened. I realized that the wires had been burnt in a few of the harnessess. then looked at the fuse and that was burnt on both sides rubber was gone. Something shorted out and burnt a lot of wires. I replaced the wires but now when I try to start the ski I get no spark and the vts motor no longer works. Can anyone help there is no wiring diagram in the service manual.

If the VTS motor gets wet it could cause a short. Check the rubber boot that the shaft goes in outside the hull, most of the time water will get in that way if boot has hole or is torn.

Thanks but the ski was never put in the water and the the boot was replaced along with the vts motor. I just don't know what could cause the short and now have no spark?

you said you replaced the motor but the vts module was the same???

those modules can fill with water inside the potting compound and cause major shorts in the vts system frying the MPEM.

If there was water intrusion to the vts motor there was also water in the potting compound which I am betting was the culprit.

No the module was not replaced I guess that could cause all the problems if it fried the mpem. Does anyone know where I can pick up a new mpem at a reasonable price or used one and what models are compatable with a 96 spx?
