**Long time lurker but new poster***

About a month ago I picked up a 96 sporster because I figured it'd be nice to have a few more seats over my SPX.

First time I had it out (4 adults) the thing wouldn't even plain out. With just 2 adults wide open I'd hit about 30/31 and if I put the heaviest up front I could eventually plain out with 3 adults. Although it would take forever. So as I've always done I searched seadoo forum and read Dr. Honda's thread about replacing your wear ring. I installed a new wear ring and impeller as the old one was chewed up. Still can't get the thing On plain with 4 adults and still maxed out at 30 via my gps. So again more research leads me to my carbon ring/ ss ring which I have replaced and again top speed 30 mph. A immediate 90* turn almost slows me to a crawl. Now if it wasn't for hearing about other members boats pulling tubes and hitting 40 mph I would have just thought that this is all a boat with a single 717 is capable of.

Anyway I'm running out of ideas and not really sure what to try next, is this still a cavitation issue?

Thx in advance if anyone has any ideas.

So your engine is reving up, the boat is "shuddering" a bit, and she wont plane out? are you sure that the carbon ring is sitting tightly against the shaft? As Doc has posted, there sometimes are multiple notches on the shaft, and you can increase the pressure between the carbon ring and the shaft. I can tell you the max weight for our boat is 650 LBS. that's TOTAL. I don't know about you, but i can't think of any 4 adults that = less than 700 lbs. now add gear, and you are well beyond the limit. I also read a post about putting zip ties around the boot, in the groves, snug not squeezing to increase it's resistance, there by helping to prevent sucking air. Hope some of this helps!

I don't have multiple notches on my drive shaft, the ss ring is held on by an o ring. I also tried the zip ties on the boot. Yes revs up and takes time to plane out. I'm 190 my Gf is 130 and the 3rd barely 170 and with the 170lber sitting up front I still have to shift my weight towards the center of the boat to get it on plane. Tried it last night by myself on a calm lake and maxed out at 32 mph. Wish I had a tach to insure this thing is max throttle.

Honestly 32 is more than fast enough just wish I didn't lose all my speed in a turn. Tonight I'm going to time it to see exactly how long it takes me to get on plane with 2 on board
