I just bought these two skis from my buddy. I am going through them and cleaning the carbs etc. From what I can tell from surfing the web, the 1996 SPI was a twin carb model but this ski has a stock airbox single carb on it. It is a white 587 motor and appears all stock. My buddy says he had some carb work done and it looks like someone may have swapped a SP single carb onto it.

How many carbs does the SPI have in 1996 stock trim?

Thanks

Single carb....

The SPI had one carb from the factory bolted to the airbox and intake. The SPX had 2 bolted to the airbox and intake. So, either you actually have the SPX or someone changed it out, maybe to try a "mod"........

OK thanks. Mine is all stock single carb. I found a few references on the internet that stated the SPI was a twin-carb. I was not sure.

I'm not sure, but I think they used the single carb setup on the 587 all the way through. When they changed over to the 717 engine, is when I think they changed the carb set-up.
I didn't run that through the manuals, so I could be wrong on it.
