I need help. Im new to the jet boat world and have a 1996 speedster. I run it a dozen times this year and have had no problems. But the last two or 3 times I am having issues with one of the engines. When I hit the throttle on the one engine it it slowly revs to about 4k it then pauses for a second and revs to 7k. Every time I take it out it seems to be getting worse. I was pulling my buddy out of the water on some skis and the engine wouldnt go over 4k at all. When the boat is out of the water and hooked to the hose, it seems to rev fine. When under a load it has trouble. when the engine finally does rev it seems to run fine. I pulled the plugs and it look to be running rich, but after i put the new ones in , there was no difference. It merely just doesnt rev as fast as it should. ANY IDEAS

Have you done a compresssion check recently? Second thing, when is the last time the carbs were cleaned?

Compression checked out ok. As far as the carbs go , I dont know when they were cleaned last. I am going to pull the carb out and clean it this week.

my friend was having a similar problem with his 96 gtx. did it sound like it was a rev limiter at 4k? I know that when this happens on his we just shut it off and start it back up then it is usually ok.

I wish that was the case for me. I have shut it off and turned it back on many times, it still runs crappy.
Thanks though

Well at least you know where your going then. probably more of a fuel issue if it doesnt go away when restarting. Good Luck.
