I am going to restore a 1996 speedster that needs a lot of work. Does anyone know how to remove decals that are really hard to get off? Can I use a heat gun? the decal is coming off in tiny pieces.

Also I'm going to use a buff magic and a polish to get rid of the oxidation but does anyone know if that will brighten the yellow pieces enough or can I just paint those? And is there anything I can do for cracks in the fiberglass?

is is better to use a drill with a an attachment or a variable speed polisher?

I used a heat gun to remove the decals then used decal glue remover (auto parts store) to get the glue residue off before using rubbing compound and a drill.

Good advice, a heat gun and a plastic scraper are your best friends, for stubborn places a single edge razor blade, but be careful.

In the 2 stroke section check out jetskigoodies resto threads. He gives step by step instructions on how He does it.

yea for harbor freight, I got a heat gun there today and a plastic scraper and it finally all came off but it took my at least 2 1\2 hours to do it and not all of it is off. But I have made great progress. I will never try it again with a blow dryer a heat gun makes such a difference and I only paid 15 for it at harbor freight.
