So..... I'm a complete dumb@55...... In my defense, it was SUPER hot yesterday, so at the end of the day working on the boat, I was toast. Plus I had a few "sodas" before I went inside AND LEFT THE ENGINE COVER OFF!! One engine still installed, carbs off, and did not notice until I got home this evening, and it rained today.......

Since I cannot run the engine for a correct water flush, I think I will pull engine, drain the little bit of water in crankcase with the intake off by turning it sideways overnight, then upside down overnight. With lots of fogging oil in cylinders and crankcase in between.

Can I use diesel, or something else, to rinse it out with?

Yes you can do that. If you can get it running you don't need to run it on the hose for a minute or two. Just don't let it get too hot.
