I have a 96 seadoo xp jet ski i everytime i take it out and run it for a few hours it starts to bogg down a little. so when i get it home i run air thru the fuel lines and clean the fuel filter and the fuel shut off valve. and it runs fine for a few hours after then it starts to bogg down again any advice???

Thank you, DJ

have you cleaned/inspected your carbs? and just in case you still have the gry fuel lines no is the time to replace them with black marine lines.

I did replace the grey fuel lines with black lines about mid summer last year. i havent done anything with the carbs. is it hard to clean those carbs or do you need to take it in to a shop??? thanks dj

i wouldnt trust a shop, its about a 2 hour job to clean them and inspect them, here's a link to the forum with pics step by step on how to remove them and clean them, http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=3495dont take it to a shop and make sure before you start go to walmart and purchase a green bottle that says "brake and parts cleaner" its about 3 bucks, and when you pull out the carb clean the tiny filter on each carb just spray em down with the cleaner.

this project maximum you would spend about 39 dollars on the gasket rebuild kit thats if you need to rebuild it. or if everything its fine you would just end up spending 3 bucks for the cleaner, I worked at a dealership as a Service Manager and the goal for the service advisors for them to make money would be to upsell and find something minor to make the customer pay for, if you walk in there for one problem you'l end up paying for more than wht you expected, dont go there!

is there an easy trick to pulling the carbs off? do you need to pull the air box and everything??? so it shouldent be hard to remove, clean and re install the carbs? is there anything i should be carefull with doing.? thanks dj

usually what i do is i'l pull them out and once i got them out i dont disconnect the choke or the throttle, you can work with them attached, cause you dont want to unsynchronise them so, i would recomend work on one at a time. and yes you have to remove the airbox etc. i happen to have a k&n assembly so its pretty easy for me to remove

so do you think that those small filters in each carb are clogged and thats whats causeing the problem? thanks dj

there are many factors that could cause poor performance, your carb diaphrams could be bad or your main fuel filter could be also dirty have you checked it?

yes i replaced it mid summer last year. its just wierd that every time i blow the fuel lines out it runs great but after a few hours it starts to sputter a little bit and it seems not to have all the power it had before. i took the air filter assy. off and tried to clean the carbs like that i will take it out on the water this afternoon and see how it performs. thank you, dj

look on that link i posted earlier and it will tell you wich needle is which and then you can adjust them. after getting your carbs back together tested in the water and after 10 minutes at around 5000 rpms check your plugs they should be dark brown, not wet, not clean and not to carbonized, search through this website and you will find alot of useful hints
