Hello. We just purchased a 1996 Seadoo Sportster about 2 months ago, it was working fine for the first few weekends and then the engine at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle seems to break down and has a lack of power, not enough to get it out of the water to plane. The engine starts without issues, no excessive oil. Idles fine but when you give the throttle as soon as we get to 15mph the engine starts to break down and does not want to give any more power to get it out of the water.

I have put fresh gas and amzoil (may be spelled wrong) full synthetic bombardier oil and cleaned the spark plugs. After cleaning the spark plugs the situations seemed to get worse.

I am suspecting it is the spark plugs causing the issue since it got worse after cleaning them. The spark plugs that are in it are NGKR BR8ES.

Can you advise if these are the correct spark plugs that should be in the boat or if you have any other suggestions of what I should check. I am mechanically inclined and can do most work myself.

Thank you:)

Hey...yah, those are the plugs gapped at .19/.20. Sounds the same symptoms i have.
I'd start at the fuel system, inline filter, fuel selector valve, fuel lines,(grey lines, replace them), and carbs. If you do get rebuild kit, DON'T use the springs from the kit, keep stock ones, if good cond. However , if careful, and diaphram isn't messed up, can get away w/ cleaning the carbs out.
Do compression check, 150psi is great, check all connections, make sure no cables are burnt,..also, what cond was the plugs???

Welcome to the seadoo forum epicboater. Here is an idea of what the problem could be. It sounds like you need to remove the carburetors and clean them. If you're careful and don't tear or damage the diaphragms you won't need to buy a rebuild kit. Pay attention to the internal filters too. If you have gray fuel lines you need to replace them with black fuel lines available from auto parts stores like Auto Zone. Measure the length you need and bring a sample with you so you get the correct size. Replace one at a time so you don’t get them mixed up. If you need clamps replace them too. Use small stainless steel clamps also from the auto parts store.
