I recently bought a 1996 Seadoo Speedster. I took it out for the first time this past weekend to the river when I ran out of gas while I was riding. After I put more gas in, one motor would crank but the other motor would not. After I tried a few times to start it it would start beeping when i hit the start button. Just one beep after the start button was hit. Also the steering is pretty tight to turn. Is this normal for a seadoo boat or does something need replacing. Please help.

I would check the cable ends to see if they are dirty. The cable might need replacing as they are sealed and you can't lube them. It is possible that you sucked in crap from the bottom of the tank. Change the plugs, and use the choke to see if it fires up, it should. Keep us posted.

1996 Seadoo Speedster starting problem

Karl,

When I tried to start it last time I did pull the choke before starting it. However, it just keeps beeping everytime I pull the choke and push start. (One short beep) Do you know what the one beep means. Also, I will try to replace the plugs.

I think the 1996 has the dess system,(Digital Electronic Security System). the single beep might mean it has a dirty lanyard cap. I would use soapy water to clean it. I wouldn't use anything on it, just wipe it dry. no grease or anything. There is a ROM chip in it that communicates to the mpem,( Multi Purpose Electronic Module). If it is dirty it won't identify the lanyard cap. Make sure the battery is charged up and the wire connections + and - are all tight and clean. Let us know how you make out.
