I am looking at buying a 1996 seadoo speedser its only 1500 dollars. here the bad I am just getting into boats and this would be a nice starter boat but the boat has probelms and I want to know if it's worth buying. The guy says that left side motor has problems. He says it runs but you have to have the choke pulled to keep it running and that its was full of oil. not sure what full of oil think engine he said it may just be a crank seal?? please help me and let me know if it is worth buying thanks

It start with you, the potential buyer.

Are you a mechanically inclined person? (do your own brakes, oil changes, suspension work)
Do you have deep pockets? (PWC and boat parts aren't cheap)
Are you looking for a turn-key boat that is pretty much ready to ride?

Then you can ask about the boat itself.

Without actually having seen the boat or understanding the situation with the oil, I couldn't honestly say $1500 is a great deal. It is possible you are only a few hundred dollars away from a good deal. But you should be prepared for things to get a little harder before it gets better.

The oil leak may be coming from the oil injection tubing (there is a lot of it). The hoses get old and harden - then crack at the fittings. I have more detail posted here->http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=437

For the trouble engine, the carb is probably up for cleaning or a rebuild. This would be the time to do both engines' carbs and replace the grey fuel hose to black.

I am mechanically inclined I am an auto tech for volvo just dont know a whole lot about seadoos. I guess my problems is I am thinking its gonna need one new engine and I know that can be expansive and I know for the price of the boat and price of a new engine could almost be as much a one I could get running. Kinda my dalema

It could be a good project...but if it needs a rebuilt engine it is cheaper to get a re-manufactured on and save some money and aggravation. Cost of a remanufactured is just under $1000.00 if you have a good core.

thanks for all your help in your personal opinion do you think it might need an engine i know you cant be sure with out seeing it or doing a compression test.
and what a good core???

That's just the worse case scenario. A core is the old engine the company supplying you with the re-manufactured from will want back to re do and sell as a remanufactured unit.
