Forgive me if this is already addressed, but I tried searching forums and didn't come up with anything. In taking out my carburetors, I messed up my oil pump. The throttle cable to the pump came off and jammed the rotating throttle mechanism, which is no longer spring loaded, but spins freely (I don't know and can't find the official terminology). The question is, can I premix and run the jet ski as is. I don't know how the pump works, I'm figuring the pump is stuck at 100:1 idle ratio, so premixing will take care of it with no harm done. I really just want to finish this season with a couple of rides so that I can spend the winter figuring out where I want to go from here.

If not, please explain why not. If you recommend I take the pump out and rebuild, I am done for the season.

BTW, if worse comes to worse, how do you junk a jet ski? I live in Delaware, which is not very water-sports friendly.

Thanks
Mike Hendry

Don't take my word for it but my feeling is that if you're pre-mixing then you're not going to hurt anything. but if there's zero spring tension how do you know what amount of oil the pump is going to be putting out? You'll never have too little oil if you pre-mix but you may end up with too much if the pump varies its output because of vibration. Just a thought.

I had something similar happen to me when i was taking all my stuff apart... I just re-wound the spring and everything is working fine. The oil pump comes off pretty easily.

Okay, thanks. Sounds like a good winter project. Of course, the service manual warns that if I don't bleed and calibrate everything perfectly, I"ll DESTROY MY ENGINE! ahhh! I figure worse case, lot's of smoke and fouled spark plugs.

I run 50:1 with no problem at all, and will do so till winter, then I am putting a new pump on. They are not that hard to do, just a pain to take everything out and install it.
