I did search before posting.
I just bought a 1996 GTS from a younger kid the other day. It appeared to be all stock. He said he has had it for a few months and his apartment building said he could not keep it there. I have him 900.00 for it. Looks decent. Needs a seat cover. Not all beat up. It was late and he showed me a video of him running it that day. The life jackets were still wet. I should have went to the lake on it. But we talked for 2 hours at his house. I did not get the vibe he was misleading me. Took it to the lake today. Won't hardly take off..seems very very rich on the bottom end. Once you get going runs smooth till you stop then it starts all over. I am somewhat mechanically inclined some figured the low end needed to be leaned. This is where the problem starts " I think " it has the 587 and twin carbs. Pretty sure the twin carbs do not go on it. I leaned the bottom end just a tad and now it seems when you start it the motor wants to run away with out giving any throttle. I figured I need to start with a different intake and single carb. If I do that should I leave the injection alone or do away with it and mix my own fuel. I have a dirt bike and mix fuel for that. Thank you all so much in advance.
I had a hard time finding any info on the GTS model...

Youre right the GTS did not come stock with dual carbs. Since you just got it and before going too deep start with a compression test. Ideally both cyls are 150 psi but down to around 130 is ok as long as both are close. If you decide to go premix instead of injection you still need to keep oil in the reservoir and main oil and return line circulating to the bottom of the engine.

It will be a few days before I can get my hands on a compression gauge.i rode the ski today and when you get it going it goes good. Not the fastest thing on the water but it ran great once it was going. I figured it was just getting too much fuel for such a small motor. I'm going to put it back to single carb set up as soon as I find one kinda local. Now I just have to figure out how to remove what I have.

Your ski is capable of running with dual carbs. It is a popular upgrade done to GTS models. You just need to make sure you have a good engine first by checking the compression. Then the carbs need to be correctly adjusted. Look at the top of the Forum page for a sticky post pertaining to carb adjustments by one of the experts. Also the carbs may need to be rebuilt if it has been awhile. Kits are available online for about $50 per carb. It can be done by anyone wilth a reasonable mechanical ability. I think trying to change it back to a single carb will be costly and unnecessary.

Thank you. I will look into just taking them off and inspecting them. My problem is trying to figure out to to remove them. It looks as if there is no way to get a wrench to remove the nuts from the base of the carbs...

Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to remove the carbs. They are twins. I can't seem to get any type of wrench on the bolts to remove them from the intake.

If your dual setup is anything like my single, the bolts go all the way through the carbs form the top. It's a hex wrench, not sure of the size. It is a tight fit working on the intake side, but it can be done. Air box must come off along with the spark arrestor and mounting plate.

It's my understanding that seadoo did put twin carbs on the 587 in the early 90's. Can anyone tell me the jet size?

If its a 97 Im pretty sure its a 720 and it came with a single carb so you might want to really check it over. you might have something someone cobbled together.

The hull is a 96. The motor is a 587 " white " with twin carbs. It has either been cobbled together or the motor is from 92ish. There was a year that the 587 cane with twin carbs. I wanted to pull them and go thru them to make sure they are jetted right before I spent the money on a single set up

The GTS and the GTX were similar skis in the early 90s. The GTS was a base model with a single carb 587 and not standard with guages basically no bells or whistles. The GTX was deluxe offered with a dual carb 587 a fuel/oil guage and tach. The dual carb setup on your ski most likely came from an early 90s GTX. To find out the jetting etc. You will have to look at info. For a GTX with the dual carb 587.

I just checked some info.
The 96 GTS did come stock with a 587 single carb. The 93 GTX came with a dual carb 587. Look up info. On the 93 GTX for jetting and carb info. Good luck.

Found a guy kinda local that has a repair shop and has everything I need to put a single carb set up back on. Going to get it today. My brother n law has a good friend that is a jet ski mechanic " had no idea he was " he looked at the twin set up on my ski and just laughed. The fuel lines were allmhooked up wrong. He just laughed. He said he could get it running but the single set up would be more reliably in the future..so we will see..
