I have a 1996 sea doo xp. I just put in new diaphrams and gaskets in the carburetors. Now it won't idle and it coughs when trying to hold a low idle. It seems to run fine at higher rpms.

What may be the problem?

did you replace the spring/s inside the carbs? Did you use "mikuni" parts, for the rebuild?

If not mikuni, the "red dot" on the diaphramis too long, holding your needle up some, enuf to flood the motor at idle/bottom end. If you replaced the spring, then your "pop-off" is too low, and opening before it should. I recommend you install the stock one back in...If you answered "NO" to replace spring, and "YES" to mikuni parts, then I say, your needle is sticking, and or turn your idle up more...3k out of water...

Thanks for the input.

I did not replace any of the springs.

I bought the diaphram and gaskets online at Powersedge.com. The diaphram does have a red dot.

Do you think I can just turn up the idle? or will I need to buy mikuni parts?
How about shaving down the red dot?

I have already winterized and put away for the winter so I won't be trying anything until next spring.

get the idle set to 3k, on the trailer..than wrap the throttle, see if the "response" is there...possible, just needs the idle turned.
