I’m trying to wire up a 1994 spi cdi box to be compatible with a 1996 on handle bar start stop. The problem is that the 1994 has a stop button on the handle bars and a green start button next to the lanyard and the choke. Now the 1996 has an all in one start stop on the handlebars. Has anyone done this before and can tell me exactly what I need to hook up where?
After some figuring out i wired up everything however when i went to turn it off the 96 switch it did not work as a 2 function switch and rather then turning the engine off when i pressed it, it kicked in the starter again. What should i do now?

Dess system....

I don't think what your trying to do is compatible. The 96 model uses the MPEM (mutli purpose electronic module), which is more than your 94, which uses the ECM (electronic control module)....

I'm surprised that you got a run from it. The DESS (digital electronic security system) uses the post and lanyard with a ROM (read only memory) embedded inside.

The older skis had a lanyard cap tied to the person so that, after you push the start button, you could pull this cap to shut it down. The 96 and newer models start button is double acting to the mpem. It's used to start/stop and not just one function.

I could go into this further with the electrical drawings but from just memory, this should not be a compatible match...........
