Last year I bought a 1996 sea doo gtx (787 engine new from SBT just installed) and a 1999 sea doo GTS that works great. I also have a 1997 Yamaha wave raider that works great. Any ideas on the oil leak? Also the top speed on the GTX is 44 mph...the GTS with the smaller motor is faster...it runs 44mph. The wear ring seems to be ok...and it doesn't really cavitate...it is just slow...any ideas? Thank you!!!

It's hard to tell you were an oil leak is over the internet. BUT... it could be from the rubber fittings in the tank. They dry out, crack, and leak. It's the most common place... but since the engine was replaced... there could be a split hose, or loose clamp. But... the only real way to know is to clean everything... and look for the leak.

As far as top speed..... the GTX should be running mid 50's. (with one person) So... is the engine running full RPM's? (close to 7000 rpm's)

Yes it does...that's what I don't understand...the wear ring and impeller clearance seems to be ok...and it seems to smoothly and quickly accelerate to 42mph...when the motor got replaced at the end of summer I only got to ride it once for about an hour...but hope to be back on the water in a month or so. I also got a temp light warning on that ride...but motor seemed to be cool to the touch. I wonder if I have a problem with the guage or if I truly have a temp (cooling) issue. I also wonder if anyone knows of a scource for touch up paint for a few nicks (gtx green)...thank you!

I agree with all the above.
Same ski, runs at 7K RPM and about 55MPH. My oil tank grommet was dry, loose and leaking. replace it and no more leaks.

Are your carbs sync properly....butterfly opens all the way. filters cleaned inside & NO GREY FUEL LINES?

Its all about the RPMs...if it isnt making top RPM you arent making top speed. It could also be issues with the Raves, the water regulator, or the rectifier...

Welcome to the site! If there is anything I can help with just let me know.

They are OK to reach, but I removed my oil tank to replace the grommet.....it's a lot easier than trying to struggle with it....unless you have long arms and 2 elbows in each of them. :)
