I got this wave runner and only know it's got about 30 hrs on it and has been sitting since 1997 I recently started getting it together to go and use I replaced the spark plugs drained it of its Oil and Gas and replaced both with fresh bought a new battery for it after all of this I tried running it while hooked to the hose with a little trouble having to hit the start button repeatedly (maybe starter selonoid going) and it started and ran good with the choke on but when the choke was turned off it would start to race at full throttle everything looks to be connected properly so I figured carbs were due for a rebuild came out to it a couple days later and pulled off the seat to be greeted with smoke after disconnecting the battery and doing some investigating I found the burned up ignition box does anyone know what might have caused this is this common and what should i do to get going again or get rid of it any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Mike

look up the oem # of that mpem, and go from there. Either, get one from ebay, or do a search for aftermarket mpems'...

1996 GTI Burned up Mpem replaced Now what

I was able to get an entire electrical box with mpem key the works replaced it today now that thats taken care of I checked battery with meter have 12.50 off but when I start it I'm getting 15 or more volts now from what I read and know this is bad so does this mean change out the rectifier I disconnected the battery to be on the safe side this time any help would be great as I am new to these

I changed out the rectifier and I have 12.70 when its off and 14.02 when it's running that should be ok right? The next thing is it starts right up but when i take the choke off it starts to run away like it's at full throttle all linkages and cables are fine should i just try cleaning it with carb cleaner? any suggestions
