1996 GTX Water in engine

I replaced the battery and the engine would not turn over. I pulled the head off only to discover that the idiot who had it off previously did not replace the rubber gaskets. They just put some silicone on it so water has found it's way into the cylinders and seized the pistons. Is there any chance water made it down into the bottom end?

bill...take some pb-blaster, marvel oil..etc, let sit on those pistons. Maybe just rusted up on the walls...water could've gott'n down there, but see if you can break the rust first(if its rusted). If so, then just crank motor over, spray wd-40 in there, might need to drain oil, put fresh in, though...good luck

If you can get it to turn over, give 'er a compression test to find out if that piston is any good or not.

i had the same problem when i bought mine. although my prev. owner sucked in water thru the carbs and seized those as well.

I tried soaking the pistons and tapping them with a piece of wood and a hammer but they will just barely budge. It's a shame because the ski is in excellent condition and it only has 82.4 hours on it

Update

I've been working on the motor in my spare time and after soaking the pistons and removing the eight "jug" bolts I bumped the starter and the jugs lifted up about 1/4". So I am hoping that all it needs is the top end done and there is no damage to the lower part of the engine from the blown headgasket
