Ok so i finally put my first seadoo in the water (96 gtx 3 seater). Problem #1: it starts up fine but there is like a clunking noise coming from the impeller area and i was told that was normal from another member on this site.

Problem #2: it idled out to the middle of the river fine but then when i gunned it it would get to 6000+ rpm and then sputter and die but it would fire back up in 15 secs, it did this about 10 times then it stopped dieing out on me. But then it wouldnt go above 4700 rpm and 22 mph no matter how long i kept it on full throttle (for like 10 minutes strait).

Problem #3: it seems to smoke alot, is this normal for these jetskis?

Other than all that it seems to run and start fine, it has been sitting for 2 years and it says only 11.5 hrs on the meter....wierd i know. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks guys and im new to all of this so try to talk to me like this is a "for dummies" book lol

smoking.......

If it smokes alot, how much oil are you using out of your oil injection tank? Do you premix? How long has it been since a carb rebuild? DO you still have the grey fuel lines?

Clunking noise in the impeller is not normal. Please point me in the direction of the one giving that advice so I can correct him. It's normal to hear this sound like the bearings are not sound, but that's because without torque from the water, pushing in on the thrust bearing........that's nothing to worry about.

You sound like you may have a carb issue. The smoking can be because of you loading up the crank with oil, trying to get it to run, fouling plugs or your rotary seal is about to go "south"...........

possibly it has the gray fuel lines?

If you hold wot, and it is only reving to 4700 rpm/22 mph, and it is starving for fuel, and then the oil pump could be pumping oil for 6-7k rpms, so that could increase the smoke. And, the lean condition could cause a partially overheated condition, which could cause steam.

Anyway, do a search on the gray fuel lines, if it has them, and there is a sequence from there.

i just got done replacing the gray fuel lines on three 96 xp's. i also opened the carbs and removed and replaced the little filter in the carb. man were those filters plugged. my only question is can i just replace the filter or do i need to replace all the seals in the carb also??

yea it still has the grey fuel lines, im gunna try to replace them with new ones, can i use lines from the auto parts store?

Yah, .25ft. What about block'n injection pump, and goin premix? Save you the headache, wondering if oil is present in cylinders...
