1996 gtx crankcase different than1997 gtx crankcase?

I have a cracked crankcase on my 1996 GTX. Broke the counterbalance shaft in half. I'm looking for a used crankcase. Anybody know if all 800 crankcases are the same ? Can l use a crankcase from a different model or year? I would appreciate any replies.

I'm pretty sure 96&97 gtx and gsx are the same. Check out manuals for parts numbers

Carbed 787 cases are interchangeable.

1997 and newer have a balancer drain and fill that isn’t drilled and tapped on the 1996.
