Few questions on my recent purchase of a 1996 Challenger. It's fairly rough, but my cost reflected that, so I'm ok with it. I own two 717's (1996 GTI and 1995 XP), but am clueless on the 787.

1.) The motor runs and sounds good. Compression on both cyls is in the low 150s. The previous owner basically flipped (in terms of selling, not literally rotating) the boat, so I know nothing of it's history. As such, I am being really cautious about running it until I've gone through and made sure the fuel fliters are clean, carbs look ok, etc. Should I try cleaning the RAVE valves? What else before I run it?

2.) The reverse shifter cable is shot. Any tricks to replacing it? I am order a fresh one (likely off ebay) shortly.

3.) The engine compartment blower isn't hooked up. How vital is it that this is done?

What else should I look for before I take it out on the water?

Thanks in advance!

Blower is critical. Both from a safety as pact as well as the engine starting after a run. It is needed to clear the CO2. Engine won't start without oxygen.
